Andre Ward shuts out Allan Green.
Moving to the top of the Super 6 Super Middleweight tournament, Andre Ward has proven again he has all the skills necessary to win the whole damn thing.
Andre ward, former Olympic gold medallist, completely nullified Allan Greens power fo 12 rounds to take a wide unanimous decision.
He is now well and truly at the top of the scoreboard for the Super 6 tournament, and with his complete set of skills is envisioned to come out on top.
His next bout will be with fellow American Olympic team mate (and Bronze medallist) Andre Dirrell, who has the same ability to switch between southpaw/orthodox, and tremendous athleticism.
The Return.
One of the boxing media’s former darlings, Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, looks to be moving back into the spotlight after his almost flawless win over Yuri Foreman for the WBA Junior Middleweight belt, the 3rd weight division he has captured world titles in.
Cotto’s rise in the professional ranks was lauded by sportwriters, as he was seemingly unstoppable, taking on credible opponents from an early stage before defeating bigger names like Zab Judah, Paulie Malignaggi, Carlos Quintana and “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
He had a fall from grace after his TKO loss to Antonio Margarito after dominating him in the earlier rounds, who is suspected of having his gloves loaded with illegal hard plaster inserts, after his trainer was caught attempting to wrap his hands with them before his bout with Shane Mosley. Cotto then had a huge falling out with his uncle who was his trainer, leaving him with his inexperienced nutritionist to take the reins.
Some say he was truly damaged after that shock loss to Margarito, and his performance against Manny Pacquiao. But under his new trainer (Emmanuel Steward) and after stopping the young gun Yuri Foreman with his signature left hook to the body in the 9th,, this warrior looks to be rising to the top once again.
Pro Boxing.
Latest big time boxing news, Kelly Pavlik's Middleweight title defense, Aussie Micheal Katsidis, prodigy Amir Khan, and the Super 6 tournament.
Sergio Martinez, last seen battling Paul Williams in the fight of year (2009), has taken the WBO world middleweight title from the hard hitting Kelly Pavlik. Martinez, a former professional soccer player from Argentina, now based in Spain, stuck to a smart gameplan, moving in and out, landing stinging combinations and never letting Pavlik set himself.
Cuts opened up over both Pavliks eye’s early on, prompting him to dig deep and win a few of the middle rounds, but Martinez was too elusive, and his combinations disrupted Pavlik perfectly, earning the challenger a unanimous decision.
Australian Micheal Katsidis has claimed another big scalp, after stopping Britain’s highly regarded prospect, Kevin Mitchell in 3 rounds in Upton Park in London.
Katsidis used intense pressure to put Mitchell on the ropes, and unloaded some vicious hooks, before unloading the startled Mitchell with a flurry to end the match.
Amir Khan has made his USA debut with a 10th round stoppage of New York’s Paulie Malignaggi. The colourful personality of Malignaggi has kept us entertained for a few years now, and he’s been a solid gatekeeper to the elite ranks as a junior welterweight, and is noted for his impressive handspeed, evasion and strong chin.
Khan was actually beating Malignaggi to the punch throughout, setting up some very damaging punches behind his sharp jab, refined under the tutelage of Freddie Roach, until the referee was forced to stop the contest.
Khan is now in a position to chase some solid fights in the deep junior welterweight division or even jump weights like so many are doing at present.
In SUPER 6 TOURNAMENT news, Mikkel Kessler handed Carl Froch his first loss via decision in Denmark, and now tournament favourite Andre Ward will face fellow American Alan Green, the replacement for Jermain Taylor who has sensibly bowed out after suffering several knockout losses.
Green has a lot of catching up to do but his raw punching power is always dangerous.

PRO BOXING ROUNDUP
The long awaited match-up, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather versus ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley took place at the prestigious MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and the large celebrity audience, along with the thousands of boxing fans were treated to a crackling display of skill, speed and determination.
1st May 2010
The first round involved both men exchanging sharp jabs and muscling each other in the clinch and was most likely a draw. In the second round the crowd was on their feet as Mosley caught the undefeated Mayweather with a sweet right hand and left hook that buckled his legs, but ‘Money’ stayed on his feet and tied up his opponents arms to survive the round.
For the next ten rounds however, Mayweather showed no signs of being hurt, and simply dominated the older Mosley with slick combinations and light speed counterpunches. Mosely looked very jittery and faded quickly as Mayweather put on his best and most aggressive display yet, winning a wide unanimous decision.
8th May 2010
Paul Williams, widely perceived to be the most avoided fighter in the world, finally landed a solid matchup, taking on the big punching Kermit Cintron, in Carson California, but the bout would end early in bizarre controversy.
After a fairly lacklustre 3 rounds, the two junior middleweight’s had an awkward heavy exchange, with both losing their balance. Williams simply caught himself on the ropes and landed in a seated position, while Cintron seemed to dive through the ropes, out of the ring.
He stayed down and was ruled unfit to continue. Usually, 4 complete rounds are required for the judges to come to a technical decision, otherwise a ‘No contest’ is ruled. However, under California commission rules only 3 rounds are needed, and it was a split decision for Paul Williams.
24th April 2010
SUPER 6 NEWS: Mikkel Kessler has bounced back with a unanimous decision over the undefeated Carl Froch in their scheduled bout in Kesslers native Denmark, making it the first all European bout in the super 6 tournament. Kessler simply landed more punches and seemed to surprise Froch with his power enroute to a unanimous decision.
Andre Dirrell upsets Arthur Abraham.
Andre Dirrell, the least experienced pro boxer on the Super 6 Tournament, with a narrow loss on his record in a scrappy contest against Carl Froch in the tournaments first round, has come away with the win over tournament leader, Arthur Abraham.
The slippery Dirrell outclassed Abraham for most of the bout, switching from orthodox to southpaw, even putting Abraham down for the first time in his career with a straight left.
Abraham started to put the pressure on Dirrell in the 10th, and scored a knockdown as well, but the referee seemed to miss it and ruled it a slip. Dirrell's early efforts meant he simply had to hang on and cruise to the decision win.
In the 11th round Dirrell slipped the corner and went down on one knee, Abraham, who had a cut over his eye affecting his vision went in for the kill and before the referee could intervene hit Dirrell with a right hand. Dirrell couldn't continue and was awarded the win via disqualification.
Despite the controversial circumstances, Dirrell has proven that he is a genuine threat in this tournament, and its still pretty hard to pick a winner.

SUPER 6 TOURNAMENT UPDATE
The second stage of the Super 6 tournament is about to begin. First up, is the undefeated tournament leader Arthur Abraham (GER) against the athletic Andre Dirrell (USA) in a contrast of styles on March 27.
Abraham is a stockier, more patient fighter, holding his hands high in the 'peek-a-boo' guard, and picking the more effective shots, and quite often, a knockout victory.
Dirrell is a young former olympian, with speed, height and amateur pedigree on his side. His only loss was the split decision against the awkward Carl Froch in stage 1 of the super 6 tournament.
Andre Ward, who impressed boxing fans with his victory over long-time super middleweight king Mikkel Kessler is set to take on the hard hitting Allan Green, who replaced Jermaine Taylor after he withdrew from the tournament. The fight between these two USA competitors is speculated to take place as late as May, due to a recent knee injury to Ward.
Former tournament favourite Mikkel Kessler (DEN) is set to fight fellow European Carl Froch (U.K) in April.
(The SUPER SIX, Super Middleweight boxing tournament is the most progressive thing to happen in boxing for years. Six of the best fighters in the currently hot super middleweight division face off until the eventual winner and king of the division emerges. All the competitors are guaranteed multiple fights to earn points, 0 points for a loss, 1 point for a draw, 2 points for decision win, and 3 points for a knockout.)
PACQUIAO DEFEATS CLOTTEY
Manny Pacquiao commanded a shut-out win over Joshua Clottey at the Cowboys' stadium in Texas on March 13.
Pacquiao's speed (especially his fast footwork), angles and vicious body shots put Clottey in his shell for the whole fight, and the enormous work rate from the 'Pacman' carried him to a wide unanimous decision.
To Clottey's credit though, he was tough. Some of those body shots thundered over the sound of 50'000 fans, but he never buckled.
Manny Pacquiao retained his WBO Welterweight world title.
MANNY PACQUIAO SUPERFIGHT
International superstar Manny Pacquiao, who needs no introduction, takes on what some consider his biggest challenge, the pride of Ghana, Joshua Clottey, for the WBO Welterweight world title.
Clottey has been based in New York for years now, and has proven himself as one of the top dogs in the highly competitive Welterweights. His victory over the lightening fast Zab Judah, and his controversial split decision loss to the classy Miguel Cotto has garnered an opportunity to share some of the spotlight that the worlds number one fighter, Pacquiao enjoys.
Clottey has a seemingly impenetrable guard that is dubbed the 'African shell', which seems to frustrate the best of his opponents. He's big for a Welterweight, so when he comes out of that shell, there's some power behind those counter punches.
Basically he's bigger, and arguably just as tough as the champion.
Pacquaio's speed will be his best weapon, as one of the fastest guys around he's likely to put clottey on the defensive, and if Clottey spends too much time in his shell, the Philippine dynamo will control the fight.
